2. Flow Demand Will Determine Capacity
The flow (compressed air consumption) of all connected equipment, plus an additional safety margin, determines how big the air compressor must be.
Each pneumatic tool or process consumes a certain volume of compressed air per minute determined in either l/min or cfm, so one must add them up to find the total requirement.
3. Pressure Determines the System Design
Pressure helps determine:
• The type of air compressor (rotary screw air compressor or reciprocating piston air compressor).
• The pressure control range.
• The air receiver tank size.
• The filter and air dryer selection.
However, it does not indicate how much compressed air is needed over time.
4. Proper Sizing Requires Both
To correctly size an air compressor, one needs:
